The incumbent will serve as the Secretary supporting the Mental Health (MH) Service by performing administrative and secretarial work at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, in Louisville, KY.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Reviews all outgoing correspondence requiring signature to assure completeness, indicated clearances, adequacy and conformance to policy, views, tone and grammatical correctness.
Performs administrative work, which includes management of the off ice schedule and day to-day plan.
Develops routine plans and schedules using standard references and existing information.
Reviews correspondence for appropriate disposition, gathering information and using knowledge of healthcare system's policies and other regulations when composing replies.
Reviews all outgoing correspondence requiring signature to assure completeness, indicated clearances, adequacy and conformance to policy, views, tone and grammatical correctness.
Exercises exclusive control over the Executive's appointments/calendar to set availability and priorities.
Types a variety of documents into final form, ensuring correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format and style.
Performs off ice automation work on personal computer utilizing multiple programs to complete documentation.
Utilizes a range of soft ware applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) to prepare correspondence.
Receives incoming calls from patients, clients, staff and others in need of information.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers, constructively and appropriately.
Receives visitors and callers for the department and routes or takes thorough messages as appropriate.
Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing the full range of clerical/administrative duties; using computer word processing applications and various databases to schedule and maintain appointment calendar, and prepare, review and edit memorandums, reports, spreadsheets and maintaining electrical correspondence; screening calls and visitors; performing timekeeping; and utilizing communication skills both in-person and in-writing.
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Physical Requirements: No special physical qualifications are required to perform the work. The work requires the ability to move around the office and carry light items such as office files. Also, some walking, standing and bending are required.

NOTE: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-6 grade level. Therefore, it is not necessary to submit transcripts.
