Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • IAT/IAM Level I certification is mandatory within 6 months of assignment to position, as directed by DOD 8570.1-M.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 441 level FULL PERFORMANCE within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

You are required to have information technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include installing, configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting network devices while also providing timely and accurate updates. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT related experience demonstrating this competency include providing feedback on network requirements, including network architecture, infrastructure, and routing. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include communicating technical matters in writing and orally to facilitate appropriate managerial action and customer understanding. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include identifying, remediating, and reporting on network device vulnerabilities, or troubleshooting major incidents or problems within the network. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by interpreting and adapting guidelines, such as the policies, regulations, precedents, and work directions for application to specific cases or problem. This position is within the Work Category PROFESSIONAL at Work Level FULL PERFORMANCE, Series and Grade GG-2210-11. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. MAJOR DUTIES: A. Serves as an IT SPECIALIST: Responsible for providing network security, assessing the effectiveness of implemented Enterprise MCEN-N/S security features and operations, configuration and troubleshooting of Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) components in the Western region. Demonstrates knowledge of network systems management principles, models, methods and tools. Applies knowledge of laws, regulations and policies as they relate to cybersecurity and privacy. Provides in depth knowledge of capabilities and applications of network equipment to include routers, switches firewalls, encryption devices, servers and related hardware. Diagnoses network connectivity. B. Monitors Network Operations: Incumbent serves as a member of a team that is responsible for analyzing network traffic capacity and performance characteristics. Monitoring of traffic flows across the network and the ability to interpret the information collected by the various enterprise tools. Utilizes skill in configuring and utilizing network protection components. Ensures compliance to resolve network vulnerabilities to ensure that information is safeguarded against outside parties. Test and maintain network infrastructure including software and hardware devices. C. Serves as a Technical Expert: Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies. Adept understanding of local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth). Knowledge of organization's Local and Wide Area Network connections. D. Performs other such duties as may be directed.
