This vacancy is for a Personnel Security Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, Office of Security Policy & Management (DCMS-34), Washington, DC.
Duties
You will serve as a professional Personnel Security Specialist and acts as an expert advisor and consultant to the U.S. Coast Guard DCMS-34 Chief Security Officer and the DCMS-342 Chief, Personnel Vetting Division. You will provide expert Personnel Security advice and guidance to the Coast Guard Commands, Units and HQ Program Managers. You will develop and recommend Coast Guard policy, procedures and directives for the above listed major security element of the overall USCG Internal Security Program.

- Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
- Testing designated Position (TDP).
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
GS-14 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Your resume must demonstrate that you meet the specialized experience below: Assisting in the development of Personnel Security policy and implementation of Trusted Workforce 2.0 initiatives which support personnel security vetting for national security for access to classified information or sensitive positions; suitability or fitness for employment; and common access card issuance for HSPD-12; Setting and adjusting short and long-term priorities that support the agency strategic focus; serving as a technical authority in situations requiring the application personnel security policies to ensure implementation and compliance of the agency’s personnel security program; Consulting with operating personnel and other security specialists on personnel security issues and initiatives.
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
