The Program Support Assistant (PSA) is assigned to Nursing, Patient Care Services. The incumbent performs administrative support duties with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment program. Their assigned sections in assist with completing tasks may include Nursing (Ambulatory Care; Acute Care and Specialties; Geriatrics Extended Care & Rehabilitation; Mental Health and Operations); Patient Advocates; Social Work; Sterile Processing and Veterans Engagement.
Duties
These duties include but are not limited to:
Quality improvement activities
Service recovery
Participation in and coordination of research projects
Promoting education for patients and staff
Patient care coordination, oversite of scheduling
Referrals and consults within the facility and community care
The overall collaboration of administrative oversight for operations and quality control within the program area to include coordination with multidisciplinary team members
Serve as liaison with other services that support Patient Care Services such as Call Center Pharmacy, Infection Control, Logistics, Engineering, Business Office, Human Resources, Administration, VISN, Contracting, Revenue, Education, and Care in the Community.
Responsible for offering service specialized administrative assistance, supporting recruitment processes, managing reports and data such as performance measures, All Employee Survey (AES), clinic utilization data, missed opportunity and no-show data, workload information, open encounters and unsigned progress notes
Assisting with scheduling duties, phone management, calling patients when necessary
Learns and proficiently utilizes ACUSTAF and VATAS for timekeeping/timecard purposes
Independently researches, coordinates and composes replies to routine, non-clinical correspondence with no direction of supervisor
Schedules meetings, conference calls, special orientations, presentations, program training, and equipment/supply delivery, installation and training
Prepares meeting minutes and has responsibility for following up on all action items to ensure completeness
Complete additional duties/tasks as assigned
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/21/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-06 -Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-5), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: knowledge of and skill in applying organization's missions, functions, goals, objectives, work processes, precedents, policies and guides that pertain to the work as well as sources of factual data relevant to assigned tasks sufficient to relate needs and accomplishments of the division; knowledge of computer equipment, printers, electronic typewriters and software to provide staff support and to accomplish specific programs and projects, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, VISTA, CPRS, Vet-Link; knowledge of medical terminology and accuracy of their application as they affect the assignment, knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and required formats. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must have one full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-7), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Incumbent applies knowledge of, and skill in applying organization's missions, functions, goals, objectives, work processes, precedents, policies and guides that pertain to the work as well as sources of factual data relevant to assigned tasks sufficient to relate needs and accomplishments of the division and work independently on assignments. Advanced understanding of interdisciplinary issues and VA organizational structure to serve as liaison between Nursing, Patient Care Services and other programs that would affect coordination of care, healthcare access, program evaluation, assessment and planning for future needs. Ability to analyze appropriate data and make recommendations to optimize quality, time efficiency, cost efficiency, performance, and productivity. Demonstrated leadership skills in interpersonal relations and conflict resolution to deal with employees, team leaders, providers and managers. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
Education: Education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standards; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Manual dexterity is required in operation of personal computer and other office equipment.
