This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Student Recruitment Specialist you will be responsible for administering programs and activities to target and recruit students in undergraduate programs at Haskell Indian Nations University; provide career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students.
Duties
As a Student Recruitment Specialist GS-1702-7/8/9, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Administer programs and activities for targeting, recruitment, and retention of students in undergraduate programs.
Create and distribute resource materials ie., promotional handbooks, brochures, and other publications to promote recruitment to Haskell.
Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops to keep informed about developing educational communications and processing technologies to apply new methods to new or existing programs involving college recruiting.
Serve as a liaison between Haskell, colleges, universities, and local school systems to develop and maintain partnering relationships in the recruitment of students.
Manage database of prospective and current Native American students in the local and national school systems.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-7: I have 1-year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Examples include: assist with activities to target and recruit students in undergraduate programs; create and distribute resource material for student recruitment and retention programs; prepare student letters and information packets in support of recruitment efforts; refer students to appropriate sources to resolve specific needs such as financial aid, residential and other areas.

GS-8:I have 1-year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Examples include: assist with administering programs and activities to target and recruit students in undergraduate programs; participate in planning and carrying out a variety of functions and promotional activities designed to recruit students; serve as a liaison to develop partnerships between the university and local school systems; create and distribute resource materials for student recruitment and retention programs; prepare form letters, individual letters, and information packets in support of the group and/or individual recruitment efforts.

GS-9: I have 1-year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-8 level in the Federal service. Examples include: administer programs and activities for targeting, recruitment, and retention of students in undergraduate programs; provide career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential students; assist students in the development of testing strategies, writing skills, and completion of applications through seminars and workshops; coordinate applications for financial assistance; participate in planning and carrying out a variety of functions and promotional activities designed to recruit students; serve as a liaison to develop partnerships between the university and local school systems; create and distribute resource materials for student recruitment and retention programs; prepare form letters, individual letters, and information packets in support of the group and/or individual recruitment efforts; attends and participates in individual and group orientation and other information dissemination sessions.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
