This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Education Technician you will provide technical assistant work in support of Haskell Financial Aid Office including assisting perspective students with FAFSA applications, reviewing and processing work-study applications, and data in automated systems.

Duties

As a Education Technician GS-1702-5/6, your typical work assignments may include the following: Maintain good customer service skills to answer questions, telephone calls, and handle the day-to-day traffic. Documents and files must be handled, processed, and filed within 2 business days. Pay attention to detail while handling students' information, documents and ensure the students paperwork is placed in the correct files. Work with various databases and computer software to assist students, faculty, and the Financial Aid office to complete tasks, projects, and reports. Read and follow various policies and procedures to help students and faculty on various processes. Maintain security and confidentiality of student files.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-5: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Having knowledge of the FAFSA and Work Study application process; responding to questions or inquiries from students, parents, faculty and visitors; answering telephones and email correspondence; preparing letters, memos and forms; entering data into various automated systems; maintaining confidentiality and security of student records and documents according to policy; able to present and prepare presentations; serve as timekeeper. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of 4-years of education above the high school level in any field that was obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: Must include copy of transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERENCE: Combination of education and experience as described above, combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for this position. (To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.) GS-6: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Independently performing clerical and technical duties in support of the Financial Aid Office; responding to questions or inquiries from students, parents, faculty and visitors; answering telephones and email correspondence; having knowledge of the FAFSA and Work Study application process; entering data into various automated systems; able to present and prepare presentations; maintaining confidentiality and security of student records and documents according to policy; serve as timekeeper. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required.

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
