This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Education Technician you will be responsible for providing a variety of technical assistant work in support of the Haskell Financial Aid Office including assisting perspective students with FAFSA applications, reviewing and processing work-study applications, and entering data in automated databases.

Duties

As a Education Technician GS-1702-6, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Maintain good customer service skills to answer questions, telephone calls, and handle the day-to-day traffic. Documents and files must be handled, processed, and filed within 2 business days. Pay attention to detail while handling students' information, documents and ensure the students paperwork is placed in the correct files. Work with various databases and computer software to assist students, faculty, and the Financial Aid office to complete tasks, projects, and reports. Read and follow various policies and procedures to help students and faculty on various processes. Maintain security and confidentiality of student files.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-6: I have 1-year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Performing clerical duties in support of the Financial Aid office by responding to questions or inquiries from students, parents, faculty and visitors; assisting with answering telephones and email correspondence; preparing letters, memos and reports for submission; working with various automated systems; ensuring data entries are complete and accurate; knowledge of FAFSA application process; able to present and prepare presentations; maintaining confidentiality and security of student records and documents according to policy. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
