Duties

Major Duties of the Position: Major Duties of the Position: Performs Associate Air Officer Commanding for Academics (AAOCA) duties in accordance with the USAFA curriculum handbook and DF guidelines. Serves as primary academic advisor to cadets until they declare a major, effectively managing advisee records and providing academic advice, mentoring, and guidance regarding the USAFA curriculum, programs, requirements, and opportunities. Uses a learning-focused approach to academic advising. Demonstrates skill in developing rapport with students. Serves as lead faculty advisor for the AAOCAs and undeclared cadets in one Cadet Wing Group. Provides information, resources, and training to cadre of faculty and staff serving as academic advisors. Assists in the development of an advising curriculum and AAOCA training program. Serves as a curriculum expert, mentor, and source of advice and guidance for cadets who visit the Office of Student Academic Services and Academy Registrar. Provides technical assistance on substantive academic, educational, and administrative programs. Reviews and revises products focused on academic advising and proactively works to support quality improvement in products, services, programs, and policy. Collaborates within and outside the organization to identify and assess high priority education needs. Develops, reviews and responds to education plans, proposals, policies, and programs required as to content, quality, soundness, feasibility and value. Instructs in one or more DFVR sponsored courses or in another department where appropriately credentialed. Demonstrates excellence in teaching as illustrated by the following: (a) adequate preparation and organization, (b) enforcement of standards, (c) mastery of course material, (d) prompt and useful feedback to students, (e) continual development of appropriate learning activities aligned with the USAFA student learning outcomes, and (f) providing extra instruction outside normal classroom hours for students who require additional assistance.

  • The selected candidate will be subject to a security investigation leading to successful completion of a background investigation with a favorable adjudication. The selectee's failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for termination.

  • The salary shown is the minimum (Annual) amount to be paid and may be set higher commensurate with individual's qualifications and experience.
  • You will be required to serve a 1-year trial period

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree required. Demonstrated experience in the field of academic administration as it relates to academic program oversight, scheduling operations, registrar functions, and academic advising and first-year programs. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Applicants must have the motivation, interpersonal skills, and institutional perspective to work with faculty and staff from across the entire campus to achieve institutional goals. ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES: Psychology, Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, Student Academic Services, Human and Behavioral Sciences, or related fields is preferred. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in the field of student academic services (supplemental instruction and strategies for academic success programs) and student information system administration highly desired. FOREIGN EDUCATION:
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements. However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
