This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Office of Enterprise Solutions. As a IT SPECIALIST (APPSW), you will perform the full range of application development lifecycle activities, following agile or waterfall methodologies in order to deliver enterprise-wide software application solutions to BEP's user community.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Serve as software developer for design, development, test, deployment, support and documentation of assigned IT software related to IT technology.
Develop and write/code new (or modifies existing) computer applications, software, or specialized utility programs following software assurance best practices.
Solve a wide range of development, operational and support problems to meet customer requirements. Draw upon resources from multiple IT specialties in order to accomplish complex tasks including cybersecurity, information assurance, IT operations, enterprise architecture, IT project management, systems analysis, systems engineering, UI/UX, data and analytics, etc.
Research emerging technologies and advises managers and customers on software and/or hardware needs, on the new technology.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To be eligible for the Recent Graduates Program, applicants must have, within the previous 2 years or intended graduation is no more than 9 months from date of application; Completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; (However, you must graduate prior to being appointed to the position.) if applicable. *Veterans who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
For the GS-7, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Performing highly structured, entry level IT application software work involving analyzing and refining system requirements, writing code, and testing applications all under the direction of more experienced specialists.
Examples of such experience may include:
- Experience translating detailed steps into software code, OR
- Experience following programming language procedures, OR
- Experience interviewing subject matter experts to gather facts regarding work processes and using that data to create information flow charts.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit. Undergraduate or Graduate Education should be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
