This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources (ASFR), Office of Grants, located in Washington, District of Columbia.
Interns are hired in several components within the Office of Grants for the Summer of 2024.
Duties
The selectee for this position will be serving in an excepted appointment while in the program and may be eligible for a non-competitive conversion into the competitive service upon completion of the program. Employees selected for this position are eligible for promotion up to the GS-09 while in the Program and up to the GS-12 grade level after successful completion of the Program.
The Student Trainee (Administrative) performs the following duties:
Provides direct administrative, procedural, and informational resource assistance and support to program staff and/or managers by organizing, collecting, analyzing, and presenting information related to the current and future program/project workload.
Responds to inquiries concerning projects and activities.
Prepares correspondence, reports, graphs/charts, forms, and other office support materials using office automation equipment and appropriate software.
Qualifications
This announcement is for Summer of 2024 internships. Students graduating in the Spring or Summer 2024 Terms and are not enrolled for a new degree seeking Program, or Certificate Program after graduation and/or not enrolled to attend the Fall 2024 Term will be rated ineligible for this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Be a student in good academic standing and understand that you must remain in good academic standing throughout the Pathways Internship Program and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (cumulative) for an undergraduate degree program and at least a 3.0 GPA in a professional master's degree program.
Qualifications for GS-07: (transcripts are required)
A. Have completed one (1) full academic year of graduate level education.
OR
B. Meet eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) Provision and completed a bachelor's degree.
S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
1) Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9.
3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies - https://www.achshonor.org/.

Education
Pathways Internship Eligibility **Students graduating in the Spring or Summer 2024 Term and are not enrolled for a new degree seeking Program, or Certificate Program after graduation and/or not enrolled to attend the Fall 2024 Term will be rated ineligible for this position.
1) Be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full or half-time basis.
2) Maintain good academic standing of at least a
2.0 GPA (cumulative) for an undergraduate degree program and
3.0 GPA for a professional master's degree program.
NOTE: If selected, you MUST provide proof that you are currently enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment in the next academic term on a full-time or part-time basis.
To verify that you meet the qualification requirements of the position, you must submit a copy of your college transcripts. An unofficial copy is sufficient with the application; however, if you are selected, you will be required to submit official transcripts prior to entering on duty. Education must have been successfully obtained from an accredited school, college or university.
Special Instructions for Foreign Education: If you are using education completed at foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by an accredited private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course by course listing along with your application.
