This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU), Northern Navajo Medical Center, Division of Community Health, Shiprock, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Supervisory Physician of the Health Education Center for Wellness by providing a variety of tasks involving direct patient care and education to individuals, families and communities within the Service Unit.

Duties

Makes home visits and conducts an assortment of patient care. Educates patients diagnosed with HIV on complex medication regimens, disease monitoring and Helath promotion. Assists with interviewing patients about the disease process including onset, treatment, and follow up. Performs outreach and education in the clinic and in the community by monitoring health statuses and assists in identifying community health problems and health hazards. Provides assistance in health promotion and disease prevention activities. Assist with general HIV awareness projects, and tasks. Documents medical histories, explains treatment procedures to patients, and prepares and administers medications. Implement community screening programs, data tracking and information sharing. Assists in development and implementation of plans to market program services and activities. Manage supplies and equipment inventory by monitoring, ordering, and storage to ensure adequate amounts of supplies and equipment to provide safe quality patient care services.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements: These standards describe the minimum qualification requirements (for example, educational, medical, age, experience, etc.) for the Health Aid and Technician Series occupational series are listed below. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. or Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Grade GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement.Examples Include: data entry and retrieval, maintaining databases, record keeping, creating reports, and communicating effectively; obtaining health information, recording health information into Electronic Health Record. OR Completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR Possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. Grade GS-06 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement.Examples Include: compiling statistical data, extracting data, utilization of electronic health records to generate reports; knowledge of health care standards, such as regulatory requirements, policies and procedures. Grade GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal Service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situation; application of medical terminology to interpret treatment plans; knowledge of healthcare theories; knowledge of patient conditions. OR Completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR A combination of specialized experience and education that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for the GS-7. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
