This position is located in the Division of Nursing, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM OB-GYN Clinic.
The purpose of this position is to provide reception duties, patient services, supplies, and check and maintain equipment for the OB/GYN Clinic.
Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse of the OB-GYN department
Duties
Perform receptionist duties; maintain various unit logs and patient census, and receives patients to the Department; assembles and identifies the chart; answers the telephone and provides routine information to the caller; pages doctors, nurses and other medical personnel.
Type a variety of forms, monthly reports, nursing schedules, recall letters, narrative summaries, and other textual materials; make copies of correspondence and distributes to proper areas.
Assist with triage of patients by obtaining medical information, screening Temperature Pulse, Respirations (TPR), Blood Pressure, weights, (Last Menstrual Period for female patients) and monitor the flow of patients. Obtains blood glucose on patients as ordered by provider. Observe patients for signs and symptoms of illness or injury. Report findings to Register Nurse. Record immunization status for visits. Document visits in Department log.
File results of various tests in patient's medical records for professional staff's references. Review nurses' admission notes and problem list for patient allergic and posts an allergy label.
Maintain clean and safe work environment by preparing examination rooms and tables. Clean used instruments and disposes of waste materials. Report defective and materials, and need for supplies. Restock crash cart and Trauma/Examine Room after each use and at the end of each shift. Assist medical and nursing personnel with sterile procedures. Assist with emergencies by performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and assisting medical personnel by handling equipment or supplies.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
GS-5: Candidates must have a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above):
Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
Examples of specialized experience: recording patients' medical history, vitals; preparing treatment rooms, interviewing patients to obtain medical information. Operate and maintain specialized equipment in the department.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
