This position is located at US Mint,San Francisco Mint-MANUFACTURING DEPT/Plant Manager CA. As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, you will be providing occupational safety reinforcement and performing environmental safety-related work requiring a dynamic, administrative approach, due to continual changes in regulations and executive orders.

Duties

As a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, you will: Develop facility-wide safety and environmental programs, procedures, and guidelines designed to comply with specific regulatory requirements. Complete safety studies, various occupational reviews on a number of occupational matters and provide technical written or oral advisory for consideration by management and other key stakeholders. Evaluate all of the plant's hazardous materials, associated industrial and plant engineering work protocol, and conducts inspections of all work areas of the assigned plant; ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations. Serve as the technical advisor for disseminating guidance to plant management concerning the plant's compliance with emissions regulations from federal, state, and local governing bodies, organizations, and stakeholders.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Assisting with planning, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive safety, environmental hygiene and occupational health program. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. Education must include major study as follows: safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
