This position serves as Business Manager for the Medicine Service Line at the White River Junction VA Medical Center. The position is responsible for oversight of administrative operations which includes direct supervision and coordination of activities for the administrative support staff.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manages all aspects of Medicine Administrative Operations;
Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure that all VA and Joint Commission Standards are met and appropriately incorporated into policies and procedures;
Monitors various performance measures for the location, determines needs for improvement, implements practices to meet performance standards, and monitors results for compliance;
Administers a variety of information, workload, and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance productivity, quality and timeliness of service provided to patients by providers;
Develops and implements strategies in an effort to improve access to care;
Prepares position descriptions, functional statements, scopes of practice, performance plans, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and awards;
Serves as the primary Medicine Contracting Officers Representative (COR);
Gives advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on work and administrative matters;
Interviews candidates for open positions; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment of such positions;
Approves/disapproves leave based on workload and executes disciplinary actions when appropriate;
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet one of the following requirements:
Specialized Experience: You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is administrative experience within a professional setting, assigning work to subordinates; monitoring performance measures; counseling employees; identifying training needs; and administering a variety of information, workload, and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance productivity, quality, and timeliness of service provided to patients. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
Education: To substitute education for experience, you must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Combination: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience that may be used to meet total experience requirements. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with some walking, bending and stooping. Manual dexterity is required when working with peripheral equipment. Reasonableness and tact are required when dealing with irate or difficult patients. The work is performed in an office setting or climate-controlled clinic subject to the normal safety precautions.
