The Medical Administration Officer serves as the Chief, Business Office for White River Junction VA Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. The Chief, Business Office provides program oversight to the following programs and reports to the Associate Director: Veterans Transportation Service (VTS), Health Information Management Service (HIMS), Revenue Management, Eligibility and Enrollment and AODs.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties consist of: Planning, directing, budgeting and managing the integration of administrative systems such as: Eligibility and Enrollment, Decedent Affairs, AODs, Veterans Transportation, Coding, Clinical Documentation Improvements, all duties associated with Coding and workload capture and the management of the Release of Information Office and Revenue generation for specialty billing such as TRICARE, CHAMPVA, VERA and other revenue duties outlined in the Patient Information Collection Management Directive, such as ICB and management of TRICARE program; Providing managerial oversight with a full range of supervisory responsibilities for subordinate supervisors and staff; Coordinating and monitoring, and has responsibility for the formulation and implementation of the comprehensive array of products and service designed to maximize the effectiveness of all aspects of OIF/OEF outreach activities, overall enrollment, eligibility, pre-registration, means tests, and Health Benefits Customer Service center programs; Monitoring the Health Information Management Service (HIMS) processes to ensure that problems are identified and resolved expeditiously; Ensuring that staff adheres to full implementation of all directives and policies; Identifying the resources required for the operation of the Business Office and develops resource/budget forecasts for staff, assigned fund control points, and day-to-day operations; Devising and/or maintaining a system of reports and uses this system to monitor the results of the Business Office; Researching, analyzing, and authoring a wide variety of reports, studies or correspondence that may include but are not limited to Congressional inquiries, special topic studies, marketing/outreach efforts, revenue generation opportunities or other issues as they evolve; and Performs related duties as required. **Selectee is required to serve one year supervisory/managerial probationary period. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, applicants must meet the following: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include overseeing administrative functions for healthcare delivery systems and supervising staff in a medical center; participate in the management of a general medical facility; and knowledge of medical and legal requirements for health care benefits, administration, medical records, agency and governmental policies and procedures and the ability to extract and analyze data, and create reports through data systems. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementAnalytical ReasoningCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Planning and EvaluatingTechnical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office or similar setting involving everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions. Most of the work is sedentary but considerable walking and travel is necessary to oversee activities throughout the Health Administration Service. Travel includes periodic travel to the Network Office or other medical centers for meetings, training, and programs activities.
