The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic (second shift). The Maintenance Mechanic will function in Engineering Service.
Duties
The duties include, but are not limited to:
The maintenance repair of all Masonry, Electrical, and Carpentry (Flooring, Locksmithing and General Building maintenance).
Developing patterns, laying out, cutting, forming, joining, assembling, and installing items such as intricate brick and block, cement structures, rebar, forming, electrical and electronic hardware, electronic controls, conduits; locksmith, flooring (especially solid surface welded seems) and stonework both straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes.
Applying common carpentry, masonry, and electrical methods, practices and techniques to complete all functions associated with the tasks assigned with little to no supervision.
Applying skill and knowledge to ensure the continued safe maintenance of all medical center masonry, electronic controls, electrical hardware, locksmith, and carpentry at the highest level of competency.
Reading and interpreting blueprints and perform installations and alterations based upon the blueprints or design drawings at the highest level of competency.
Applying knowledge of computers, programming, and their functions as they pertain to both the Lenel proximity card reader and the locksmith program.
Identifying and correcting flooring defects, such as a sub-floor that is unleveled or contains rotted wood.
Applying strong practical knowledge of woods, synthetics, builders' hardware and is familiar with metal studs and drywall construction and finishing, ceiling repair and installation of both suspended and cemented, floor tile, and furniture (assembly and repair).
Applying full knowledge of work practices methods and processes to maintain, construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of structures
Displaying knowledge and training on proper handling and disposal of asbestos material and components.
Displaying strong practical knowledge of woods, synthetics, builders' hardware and is familiar with metal studs and drywall construction and finishing, ceiling repair and installation of both suspended and cemented, floor tile, and furniture (assembly and repair).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent frequently works in close quarters around hot pipes, heating units, and on wet slippery floors. The incumbent frequently handles repair items in excess of 50 pounds or more which may be occasionally carried for considerable distances. In the performance of repair work the incumbents are exposed to moving equipment and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises and are also exposed to noise and vibration from machines. Incumbent works indoors and outdoors sometimes in inclement weather. Potentially work in dusty or confined spaces, including entering boiler steam drums, mud drums, and fire boxes. The incumbents work requires periodic climbing on ladders, and scaffolds, sustained standing in one position, lifting, bending, and reaching.
