The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor (Afternoon Shift). This position will function within Engineering Service.
Duties
This position serves as the Afternoon Shift Maintenance Supervisor, assigned to Engineering Service. The incumbent provides technical and administrative supervision for a composite crew consisting of electricians, electronics workers, air conditioning mechanics, carpenters, painters, and pipe fitters and a work leader.
The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to:
Assigns work to subordinates and ensures work is completed correctly.
Facilitates and estimates new work methods and materials needed for assigned projects.
Receive and interpret assignments from memorandums, work orders, notes, email, or verbal instruction.
Read and interpret sketches, blueprints, or drawings for assignments.
Inputting and closing out work orders assigned.
Assist Construction Engineers in the planning and development of new projects.
Provides progress/status reports to management for review.
Advises management of specific problems with scheduling with other projects, conflicting work assignments, compliance, or safety issues.
Investigates employee accidents and prepares required documentation in appropriate timeframes.
Trains employees in safe work practices.
Ensure proper levels of materials and supplies are on hand to maintain and repair all areas of the medical center.
Responsible for all machines, power and hand tools assigned to the unit. Initiates action to repair or replace equipment and tools as needed.
Will serve as COTR for assigned activities where contractors are utilized.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm or M-F 3:30 pm to 12:00 midnight

Physical Requirements: Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic platforms. Incumbent often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty, and hard to reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to fumes, loud noises, saw dust, and other environmental hazards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
