Duties
The Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) seeks to (i) advance science and engineering research and innovation leading to breakthrough technologies as well as solutions to national and societal challenges, sustaining and enhancing U.S. competitiveness on a global stage; (ii) accelerate the translation of fundamental discoveries from lab to market, advancing the U.S. economy; (iii) create education pathways for every American to pursue new, high-wage, good-quality jobs, supporting a diverse workforce of researchers, practitioners, and entrepreneurs, and (iv) serve as a central resource to catalyze and scale public and private partnerships across the agency.
TIP is organized into four distinct units - three divisions including Technology Frontiers, Innovation and Technology Ecosystems, and Translational Impacts, and an office focused on Strategic Partnerships. The Division of Technology Frontiers co-invests with the other TIP units and also with other NSF directorates and offices to spur new programs and directions, driving new and emerging technologies as well as the translation of those technologies into practice. Investments by the Division of Innovation and Technology Ecosystems build and strengthen the U.S. innovation ecosystem, engaging a broad and diverse set of individuals and organizations in the Nation's research, innovation, and education enterprise to accelerate use-inspired, solutions-oriented efforts. The Division of Translational Impacts advances the impacts of NSF-funded research by accelerating the translation of research results to practice. Finally, the Strategic Partnerships Office serves as a central resource to catalyze and scale public and private partnerships agencywide.
The Strategic Advisor possesses a strong record of accomplishment and significant experience in communicating the goals and programmatic objectives of the focus areas in which TIP is charged with investing, as well as in-depth knowledge of the broader community needed to strategize partnerships between TIP, other NSF directorates, and other sectors particularly the philanthropic community. The incumbent serves as a resource to the Assistant Director and Deputy Assistant Director for TIP in agency matters and provides advisory services for assigned projects.

The Strategic Advisor will provide expertise, evaluation and advice to TIP leadership in the following areas of responsibility:
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Bachelor's in an appropriate field plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
Highly desired knowledge of federal planning and programming processes is essential. The incumbent must be able to communicate and interact with senior scientific and managerial personnel throughout the Foundation, with other agencies, and with the general research and innovation communities, and is expected to know and diplomatically express the views and goals of the supervisor in all contacts both within and outside NSF.
