The Office of Justice Programs' mission is to increase public safety and improve the fair administration of justice across America through innovative leadership and programs and its Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is DOJ's primary statistical agency. This position is that of a Policy Analyst and is located in the Statistical Policy and Standards Unit. The incumbent designs, analyzes and advises on policies, practices and written artifacts dealing with core BJS programs.

Qualifications
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSGRADE 11:Qualifying experience for the GS-11 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-9 which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: Analyzing laws, regulations, and policies to determine an impact on operations; applying analytical and evaluative principles, methods, and techniques to identify issues and problems; reviewing statistical laws, policies, and processes and making recommendations for improvements; auditing files and processes to assess compliance with processes and policies; developing statistical and/or narrative data to support recommendations for enhancing productivity.SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Experience requirements at the GS-11 level may be met by a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if relatedCOMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONSApplicants who meet the minimum qualifications as described above will be further evaluated based upon the following technical qualifications:- Knowledge of statistical methods.- Ability to develop/analyze work processes.- Skill in analyzing laws, regulations and policies that impact agency operations.- Ability to plan and execute work.- Knowledge of statistical laws, policies, and processes sufficient to make recommendations to the organization.Additional information on the qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualification Standards Handbook of General Schedule Positions and is available at OPM's website: https://www.opm.gov/qualifications/standards/indexes/num-ndx.aspAll qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
