This position is located in any inpatient unit requiring the services of the patient escorts, or Hero's Hall, of the Voluntary Service Line under the direction of the supervisor. The primary purpose of the patient escort is to perform clinical transport and delivery functions in accordance with established facility policies and procedures.
Duties
Provides transport/escort of patients, to include moderately sedated patients, to and from; clinical units, clinics, ancillary departments of the medical center and other off-station appointments.
Assists nursing staff as well as EMT personnel in the transfer of patients to and from bed to wheelchair/litter/vehicle.
Provides pickup and delivery of diagnostic specimens, pharmacy requests and non-narcotic medications, medical records, supplies, equipment, and patient clothing and other errands as assigned.
Provides emotional support to patients/families through a kind, caring manner.
Recognizes obvious physical and behavioral changes in patients and responds appropriately.
Use and the care of standard equipment and supplies.
Responds appropriately and seeks assistance during emergencies. Applies the principles of good body mechanics and standard precautions while performing patient care duties.
Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts to include weekends and holidays or Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work includes lifting, walking, pushing, stooping, reaching, standing, sitting, andbending. Proper body mechanics must be utilized. The employee must be able to use a variety of assistive mechanical devices in the transferring and transporting of patients.
