You will serve as a SUPERVISORY LEGAL ASSISTANT (OA) in the satellite office at Cherry Point. This is a RE-ADVERTISEMENT of Announcement Number: ST-12283549-24-AMW. Applicants that have previously applied NEED to re-apply to this announcement.

Duties

You will have knowledge of federal, state, and military statutes, regulations, directives, precedents, legal terminology. You will have knowledge of standard operating practices sufficient to screen and interview clients in order to provide them proper legal assistance services. You will refer clients refer to other offices, agencies, and/or civilian practitioners for resolving legal issues. You will apply an extensive body of federal, state, and military rules and procedures sufficient to perform interrelated and nonstandard legal support duties. You will apply a variety of federal, state, military, and local procedures/legal requirements for issues involving adoption, name changes, separation agreements, custody agreements, divorce proceedings, and other legal document preparations. You will need knowledge of North Carolina notarial functions and requirements. You will need knowledge of the organizational functions and procedures of the Legal Assistance Office LSST-Lejeune in order to refer phone calls and visitors and provide general and technical information to them. You will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as, Adobe Pro, web-based applications, and other database software and programs. You will apply and use grammar, spelling, and punctuation in order to compose correspondence and other documents.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your reponse to the typing skill questions on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
  • This position requires the incumbent to serve a one year probationary period.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. The selectee will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing a variety of legal technical assistance services to attorneys such as preparing case file documents for formal actions involving potential litigation, arbitration hearing, and the processing of non-judicial punishment proceedings. (Note- Experience must be substantiated in your resume).
