The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL) provides communications leadership and support through a comprehensive strategic communications program to develop and disseminate information about NIMHD research and training programs, outreach efforts, resources, and research advances.

Duties

Supervise a team of communications professionals who translate NIMHD-supported and conducted research for several key target audiences, including researchers, journalists, and the general public. Provide strategic guidance to the OCPL director and broader institute leadership on best practices and evidence-based approaches in areas of relevance to the branch's efforts. Plan and implement a comprehensive communications program through the media relations, public affairs and stakeholder engagement activities Develop and update strategic communications plans for the institute, identifying priorities and communications needs, proposing specific strategies for addressing those needs, and assessing the costs of different strategies.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035 position at the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and planning communication/public affairs programs and activities as they relate to an organization's goals and objectives; coordinating the development of communication materials; recommending strategies for communicating the organization's programs to senior management, staff, and public; and advising senior leadership and management on communication-related issues.
