This position serves as a Lead Public Affairs Specialist, team leader for media relations, social media, and online dissemination. As such, the incumbent plans, manages and evaluates dissemination of Office of Communications (OC)-produced and coordinated news projects via media relations, social media, web, and other emerging platforms.
Duties
Develop, review and/or evaluate NHGRI’s communications plans, media guidelines, and public affairs/public liaison programs and projects.
Oversee staff activities for the preparation of planning documents related to NHGRI’s health communications.
Serve as an advisor to NHGRI staff and as an authority in the development and interpretation of guidelines in public affairs and social media.
Oversee NHGRI’s interaction with press, such as the development of press releases, background statements, press summaries, and press conferences.
Plan and implement special media campaigns designed to achieve public understanding of program issues and special developments.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: develop public affairs programs and/or projects; represents an organization where discussions, negotiations, and/or conferences involve communications in the health sciences and health-related issues; serve as an advisor to leadership on press matters and public liaison activities and lead a team on information dissemination, scientific communication, media relations, and public liaison issues.
