Duties
Performs maintenance of medical records and reviews maintenance of medical records to ensure they are maintained in accordance with regulations/instructions and other established guidelines.
Coordinates patient scheduling activities of the medical facility to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services.
Resolves problems that arise from late appointments, emergencies, or walk-ins that could delay scheduled patients being seen in a timely manner.
Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the medical facility. Receives and answers or relays incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages.
Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc., require a varying number and sequence of steps and use of difference functions from one assignment to another.
Uses word-processing software to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print forms, memos, and letters.
Uses existing database or spreadsheet software to create, enter, revise, sort or calculate, and retrieve data for reports; and uses graphic software to provide graphs and charts for reports and presentations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing maintenance of medical records, answering the telephones and scheduling appointments for patients using an established automated appointment system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
