You will serve as a MAIL ASSISTANT with the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Norfolk. The duty station is Naval Base Norfolk, VA.
Duties
You will receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, interagency mail, and services such as FEDEX/UPS/DHL.
You will ensure all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all regulations, policies, procedures and other applicable guidelines and laws.
You will examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements.
You will exercise judgement involving intimate knowledge and processing actions of technical and complex mail classifications, subject matter materials, programs, and functions.
You will operate various class (C) vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, and Inter-agency Mail.
You will load and unload vehicles with mail in USPS containers such as plastic/cardboard trays and tubs, mail sacks, sealed boxes and parcels.

- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You may be coded as "Key" and as such may be required to be removed from your military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
- You must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.
- You will be responsible for lifting weight up to 70 pounds.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using knowledge of United States Postal Service laws, regulations, processes, and procedures to perform the following:
1) Determine the correct organizational segment to which mail is addressed and distribute into principal classifications by identification mail code numbers, zip codes, locations, or similar routing instructions;
2) Receive, sort, collect, meter postage, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail;
3) Examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements;
4) Operate various class C vehicles to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all mail and correspondence;
5) Maintain files and logs and verify data by comparing it directly with original sources or instructions.
