You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT/ HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TECHNICIAN) in the FIRE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of COMMANDER NAVY REGION HAWAII.
A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.90% will be added to the stated salary.
Duties
You will ensure that workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station.
You will answer questions of employees on procedures, policies, and directives, available services, and employee activities.
You will provide active leadership over assigned crew, keeps supervisor informed, and provides accurate written reports in a timely manner.
You will inspect, test, and correct deficiencies on a variety of fire protection systems.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector 1) Conveys written information in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; 2) Expresses thoughts persuasively and uses effective modes to reinforce message retention; 3) Demonstrates ability to clearly and effectively articulate, present, and promote varied ideas and issues (to include sensitive or controversial topics) before a wide range of audiences; 4) Makes clear and convincing oral presentations. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-8: Firefighter II, Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), Fire Officer 1, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Technical Level and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B).These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
