You will serve as a SUPERVISORY OPERATIONS PROJECT NON-NUCLEAR ZONE MANAGER in the Operations Manager (Code 3001), Operations Department (300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will monitor, analyze and take necessary actions to achieve cost, quality and schedule commitments.
You will review, approve and direct work operations in the execution of a project within an assigned zone of work.
You will coordinate with inside shops, ship’s force and various shipyard departments for scheduling and completion of work to support systems testing.
You will participate with engineering development of quality of work standards.
You will coordinate and modify the work plan to integrate with systems and work in other zones, including ships ‘force work.
You will assign work, evaluate performance of subordinate supervisors and provide input to employee performance evaluations.
You will give advice on work and administrative matters, identify training needs and effect disciplinary measures.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying a comprehensive range of principles, concepts, and practices concerning shipyard work operations, control system requirements, and trade and shop practices.
Experience applying project management, quality control, cost control, schedule control, and work flow techniques.
Experience applying production trade and technical methods, procedures, materials, and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of complex naval vessels.
Experience investigating and analyzing practices and problems to initiate effective improvements and solutions.
Experience analyzing, evaluating, and adjusting project resources, work operation equipment, and facilities against current and future scheduled work requirements.
Experience determining and providing resolution of operational and maintenance problems within the shipyard and ship's personnel.
Experience directing and managing the accomplishment of all phases of a work package involving direction through trade oversight.
