Duties

Acadia National Park has 2 Career-Seasonal appointments available. Both are permanent full-time, career seasonal positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. Position#1: Seawall/Backwoods Campground position will work from approximately April through October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year November through mid to late April. Position #2: Sand Beach Entrance Station position will work from approximately January through November, and you will be in non-pay status through the month of December. MAJOR DUTIES: This position serves as a Lead Recreation Fee Technician at Acadia National Park. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of technically challenging duties associated with the collection and deposit of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA). In many instances, the incumbent is the first and only contact the visiting public has with a National Park Service (NPS) Employee. At this grade level, the position is primarily responsible for leading three or more full time employees on a regular and recurring basis in which the highest subordinate grade is GS-06. In addition to leading others, the incumbent may also serve as a technical authority for the resolution of especially difficult or sensitive technical problems that involve the application of in-depth and broad fee program knowledge and the policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection. Work at this level may also involve responsibility for initiating, modifying, and improving work methods as well as automated systems and technologies. The incumbent performs assignments in accordance with all regulations governing the handling of government funds and separation of duties. The incumbent serves as a uniformed, front-line representative of the NPS. AREA INFORMATION: Acadia's main section of the park is located in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island and is 50 miles SE of Bangor. The Schoodic District of Acadia is located in Winter Harbor, is 65 miles SE of Bangor, and 50 miles from Acadia's main park's headquarters in Bar Harbor. The region offers almost unlimited recreational opportunities year-round; while the local communities offer schools, grocery stores, health care facilities, banks and small businesses. Additional information at: www.nps.gov/acad Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties if needed. Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work may frequently be performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/11/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). You must include month/year to month/year, work schedule and hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
