This position performs housekeeping duties and functions within Environmental Management Services at the VA Illiana Healthcare System, Danville, IL.
Duties
Acts as a lead while performing housekeeping duties in a commercial environment.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and patient rooms.
Removes soiled linen from ward areas or clinics using the proper collection methods for handling possible contaminated items.
Sweeps and mops floors in high traffic areas such as corridors, restrooms, stairways, entry ways, cafeterias, and other areas.
Determinines and assigns the appropriate number and types of personnel for duties on a daily and project by project basis.
Assign sdeadlines and priorities to subordinate staff and reassigns personnel and resources to accomplish unanticipated work.
Reorganizes the work schedule efficiently in order that work is accomplished in a timely manner.
Identifies and keeps management informed of the need for additional resources.
Conducst training classes on specific safety issues as needed.
Provides special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures, and safety policies.
Uses proper lifting techniques when lifting objects especially those that may be bulky and/or awkward.
Follows sanitation and infection control procedures to prevent the spread of bacteria.
Recognizes health and safety hazards for yourself and other workers around you.
Provides on-the-job training to new employees on proper methods, procedures, and uses of equipment and supplies.
Selects proper equipment to clean floors, carpets, drapes, and light fixtures.
Operates powered equipment such as scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet cleaning machines and/or industrial vacuums.
Uses ladders and/or scaffolds to wash ceiling fixtures, wash or replace venetian blinds or room partitions.
Plans for the use of workers, equipment, materials, and tools for housekeeping assignments.
Adheres to safety policies and procedures while performing manual work.
Works quickly without accidents while maintaining the quality of work.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be able to continually stand, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel while performing regular duties. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing approximately 50 pounds. Occasionally pushes or pulls loads weighing up to 600 pounds.
