The first shift Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of housekeeping aides, working as a complete shift throughout the medical center. The Supervisor services as the training instructor for all the housekeeping aides and acts within general instructions, standard procedures, and established policies given by their supervisor, the Section Chief. Incumbent may work with a subordinate leader position.
Duties
-Plans, assigns, and coordinates daily and weekly work schedules and sequences of operations for assigned subordinates.
- Estimates and assigns time, equipment, material and manpower required for each assignment and project.
- Establishes deadlines and priorities based on schedules and policies.
- Motivates subordinates to operate as an effective working unit, redirecting worker as a result of unanticipated circumstances.
- Makes unscheduled and scheduled inspections of completed work to compare adherence to instructions and established practices.
- Plans and collaborates with the section chief in conducting studies concerning work flow, design, and development of new tools and equipment, regrouping of functions, staffing requirements, layout of work and work measurement standards as they relate to the work group.
- Takes action to implement improvements or corrective actions to resolve work problems.
- Recommends solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations.
- Inspects work in progress for the purpose of locating potential problems and making adjustments.
- Conducts training for employees consisting of housekeeping techniques and procedures.
- Conducts new employee orientation.
-Handles informal complaints from employees concerning any decisions affecting work.
- Prepares written inspection reports of all areas under supervision.
- Requisitions supplies, materials and tools as required.
- Submits work orders and follows up on completion dates.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Alternating shifts including weekends and holidays if needed. Monday through Friday; First shift: 0700-1530;

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Continuous standing, bending, stooping, working, climbing ladders, and heavy pushing when removing trash, soiled linen, mopping, wall washing, cleaning vents, light fixtures, etc. Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see dust, dirt, and cobwebs.
Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a well-lighted, well-heated building with generally favorable working conditions but, at times, subjected to disagreeable odors, infectious materials, and other environmental conditions prevailing in a medical and surgical hospital. Incumbent must be alert to safety hazards, as well as observing and practicing safe procedures and universal precautions, when working with and around potentially contaminated areas.
