This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Medical Center under the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS).
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Communicate with clinical staff whenever necessary for clarification on consults and coordination of care for the veteran.
Deliver property to departments when received in PSAS and notate the patient records of the status of the device.
Notify Inventory Managers of items with low stock prior to running out of items on the shelves.
Mail out and coordinate delivery of DME to other services and directly to veterans.
Receive and scan documents received in person and via mail.
Answers the telephone, takes complete messages, ascertains the nature of requests, and either directs callers to appropriate staff, or personally provides the information required when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved.
Receives, opens, reviews, processes, and distributes by function all incoming property from Logistics/Supply Chain Management Warehouse staff.
Prepares standard reports such as receipt, shipment, storage, control, issue, and/or adjustment functions using Generic Inventory Package.
Develops and maintains the file systems for the service.
Determines proper distribution of equipment mailed for Veterans that need to be delivered to the specialty service for issuance to the patient.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement,
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond the second year. Only education more than the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. Note: A full year of work is 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited based on time spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent can be sedentary but requires moving and lifting equipment in the property distribution area. There is walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items up to 60 lbs. such as medical equipment and supplies provided to beneficiaries. The work also requires assembly of some of the equipment including, but not limited to, wheelchairs and rolling walkers.
