Duties

Develop a professional organizational culture within the fire department through mentorship. Manage the fire department’s budget through requirements and departmental capabilities. Oversee the recruitment and staffing process for fire personnel. Manage the fire departments training program through on the job training. Ensure the department provides excellent customer service to the community.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification within 12 months of appointment.
  • This position has an occasional Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is required to work a 60-hour work week which is 120 hours per pay period and may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Directorate of Emergency Services
  • Incumbent may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, i.e., mandatory overtime; recall to duty.
  • Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at residence to aid in contact during recall situations.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • The incumbent must participate in the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Wellness Program.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Fit Test, annually.
  • This position requires the incumbent to receive a Hepatitis B vaccination or sign a waiver.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year supervisory probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Selective Placement Factors: In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess all DoD certification requirements listed below certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
