This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. As an Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) at this grade level, the technologist works independently to perform the following quality control functions and report all the data to the Chief Technologist. Advanced DRT Functions:
Perform Retake/Exposure Analysis on all capable Computed Radiography (CR) and Digital Radiography (DR) Systems
Performs and evaluates quality control analysis on Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems
Performs and evaluates cross sectional images and image analysis on Picture Archive System (PACS)
Calculate Image Phosphor (IP) use and adhere to manufacturer's recommendations for frequency
Perform Phantom testing on all CR systems
Calibrate DR Equipment (detectors, monitors and batteries)
Travel Required to American Lake VA and other CBOC
Maintain lead shield database and perform annual inspections of inventory
Track trends and analyze data for the exposure logs and retake analysis that will be reported to the Chief Technologist
Performs a random audit on image quality at all sites and reports trends to the Chief Technologist
Develops Quality Control methods and programs to evaluate and monitor the imaging techniques of technologists in General Radiology, CT, and MRI
Present data for review to Chief Technologist
Inform supervisor and Bio-Medical Engineering with any equipment abnormalities
Ensures all Joint Commission mandates and Inspector General requirements for departmental quality control in General Radiology are met
Assists in developing departmental SOPs for quality control within General Radiology and updates as needed for accuracy
Assists as a backup PACS administrator responsible for independently performing various duties including image correction, account maintenance and system performance
Monitors PACS logs for performance issues and reports any issues immediately to the vendor
Proficient in Radiology Dictation system (PowerScribe 360), running reports, and extracting peer review data for radiologists focused professional practice evaluation/ongoing professional practice evaluation (FPPE/OPPE) credentialing
Trains new students and technologists for hospital wide fluoroscopy training
Addresses all image discrepancies by providing additional training to technologists, adjusting technical factors and algorithms, or following up with the vendors as needed

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. [In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist.] NOTE: You must provide copies of your (ARRT) certifications.
Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts showing certification/Degree earned and conferred date.
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determination:
Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, GS-10.
Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs:
i. Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques, including concepts of accumulated dosage, dose monitoring, and genetic changes.
ii. Ability to utilize advanced imaging software that supports complex imaging programs and recognize changes in equipment and procedures that might result in increased exposures, and ability to recommend methods to prevent such exposures.
iii. Knowledge of basic physics including concepts of energy, electric power, magnetic fields, and properties of x-ray, to understand the operation of the equipment.
iv. Knowledge and skill in positioning of patients for a wide variety of highly complex imaging (CT, MRI, IR, ultrasound, mammography) studies.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over), moderate carrying (15-44 lbs), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking and standing (4-8 hrs per day), both legs required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, both eyes required, depth perception, hearing (aid may be permitted), mental and emotional stability, prolonged standing includes the use of lead protective wear. Environmental factors include working closely with others, working alone, protracted or irregular hours of work, exposure to ionizing radiation, and exposure to body fluids.
