About the Position: This position is located at Directorate of Human Resources, Military Personnel Division. Fort Cavazos rests in the beautiful hill and lake country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin.
Duties
Process separation and retirement for service members.
Provide information to service members and survivors on separations, retirement, benefits, and entitlements.
Issue retirement orders, separation orders, reassignment orders, and orders for awards such as the Good Conduct Medal.
Input data to be transmitted to various Department of Defense (DOD) agencies for updates of on-line automated systems.
Conduct individual and group interviews to retiring, separating personnel, and family members.
Audit personnel files using a comprehensive knowledge of numerous regulations, ensuring accuracy of data used in the preparation of various forms and documents related to separation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing military personnel records; providing support in processing military separation actions and/or using automated systems to process human resource actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
