You will serve as an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, supporting the Mission Safety Division and Command Radiation Safety Program of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will be responsible for managing complex inventories of radiation meters, material, and machines. You will use radiation safety specific software and applications (TLD issuance and recording software, 3030P counter software). You will communicate and explain radiation safety topics to outside individuals with a wide range of background knowledge and education. You will conduct mishap investigations to identify root causes of mishaps, identify modes of failure, and to eliminate and minimize undesirable hazardous operational conditions, unsafe practices, and hazards.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9/10) or pay band (DA-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Utilizing knowledge related to radiation principles, including radioactive material and x-ray machine processes, and radiation safety programs and regulations; 2) Utilizing radiation detection equipment and demonstrate understanding of their appropriate use; 3) Conducting mishap investigations to identify root causes, modes of failure, and eliminate/minimize hazardous operational conditions, unsafe practices, and hazards; 4) Assisting to resolve ionizing radiation safety and health issues. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology

OR

You have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

OR

You have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
