This position is located in the Emergency Room Unit, Nursing Division of the Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico. Serves as a Nurse, performing professional nursing duties for the care of inpatients. Performs a variety of responsible nursing care procedures requiring professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments and ability to work independently. Position reports to the Supervisory Nurse of the Emergency Room Unit.
Duties
The incumbent provides registered nursing care in the emergency room department by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients with medical surgical, pediatrics, ambulatory or emergency conditions. The position reports to the Supervisory Nurse (ER).
Assess patient care needs on the unit and adjusts personnel assignments appropriately, after consulting with the Emergency Room/Department Charge Nurse or Supervisor; assess the delivery of nursing care in the Emergency Room Department and identifies problems and opportunities for improvement.
Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and Emergency Room Department protocols; operates specialized equipment.
Administers therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the physician or mid-level provider, such as medications, treatments, procedures, and intravenous fluids, while adhering to current scientific knowledge, principles of safety and infection control.
Assists in the review and revision of nursing policies and procedures, as directed by the Emergency Room Supervisor.
Consults with providers and other health care professionals to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients; implements nursing interventions based in accordance with patient care standards.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-9: Basic Requirements for the GS-09 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.
GS-10: Basic Requirements for the GS-10 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing nursing care, triage patients, recognize and intervene in acute life-threatening situations, cardiac and respiratory failure management in medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients in the emergency room; interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify the patient care needed; independently plan, schedule and provide comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.
