About the Position: The duty of the position is with Directorate of Training Sustainment (DOTS), U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Benning, Georgia 31905. This position is located in the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE). The "Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia.

Duties

Handle ammunition and/or explosives in accordance with established regulations and policies. Assist units with preparing live and ammunition residue turn-in documentation. Operate gas- or diesel-powered cargo vehicles to transport ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components. Operate a forklift to lift and move loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds. Operate vehicles in all traffic conditions in accordance with safety rules and regulations. Physically handle munitions for movement and in loading and unloading carriers.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee must obtain and maintain the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) “C “within 6 months with airbrakes and HAZMAT endorsement.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position is exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of 50 pounds.
  • Incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain a forklift driver's license once on board.

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued: The Lautenberg Act is applicable for this position. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates with convictions of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment, per Title 18 USC 922(g)(91). This position is a Testing Drug Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment. The incumbent of this position must sign a DA Form 5019-R as a condition of employment and shall be subject to periodic and random urinalysis drug testing as required by AR-600-85. Detection of drug usage through confirmed positive urinalysis test results might be cause for a determination that the incumbent has failed to meet the conditions necessary for continued employment in this position. This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Ammunition Handler (Fork Lift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common ammunition and explosive task. I can assist with drawing ammunition and explosive items from an Ammunition Supply Point and deliver items to training area. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Work requires reaching, bending, turning, pulling, standing and walking. There is frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of weights up to 50pounds. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in motor pools, ammunition supply points/igloos, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes.
