About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Ft. Benning, Georgia 31905. The Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, AL. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Public transportation and free parking is available.
Duties
Ammunition Handler responsible for receiving, classifying, storing, issuing, shipping and inspecting ammunition.
Assures work assignments are carried out by other members of the group.
Ensures ammunition is loaded by class in accordance with loading and storage charts and other pertinent regulations.
Conducts observations and inspections of ammunition in storage for corrosion from moisture and deterioration.
Issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Operates motor vehicles and directs the work of other vehicle drivers to transport various items to and from training sites.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the employee to possess and maintain a valid Class "C" Commercial Driver's license with Airbrakes and HAZMAT endorsement.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a fork lift driver's license once on board.
- This position is exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.).
- Pre-appointment medical examination/physical is required.
- This is a Testing Drug Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment.
- The Lautenberg Act is applicable for this position. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates with convictions of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- This position requires the employee to possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain a government license to operate military vehicles.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential" In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) Leader without more than normal supervision. Assist with drawing ammunition and explosive items from an Ammunition Supply Point and deliver items to training area. I work under normal supervision of a work leader of journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical efforts - Work requires reaching, bending, turning, pulling, standing and walking. There is frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of weights up to 50 pounds.
Working conditions - Incumbent works in motor pools, ammunition supply points/igloos, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes.
