This position is located at Departmental Offices, Terrorism and Financial Intelligence-Intelligence Analysis. As a Security Specialist, you will perform a wide range of assignments associated with developing, analyzing, evaluating, summarizing maintaining, and/or operating systems used to safeguard the property, facilities, personnel, and other resources of the organization from unauthorized access, misuse, theft, vandalism, sabotage, assault, or loss.
Duties
Pursuant to 50 USC 3024 (v), and with concurrence and consultation with the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, this position is being established in the excepted service as an element of the Intelligence Community within the Department of the Treasury.
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a Security Specialist, you will:
- Review, evaluate and adjudicate personnel security investigations conducted by OPM and other investigative department agencies.
- Evaluate the authenticity, veracity, and relevance of information provided in security investigations.
- Document findings, make security recommendations or determinations, and formulate written case disposition recommendations for various actions, including approval or denial of employment suitability or retention in sensitive positions and the granting, denying, suspending, or revoking of security clearances.
- Conduct security self-inspections for safeguarding classified information and evaluating security practices, security procedures and security education.
- Independently addresses security activities in physical security, personnel security, information security, industrial security, the use of information having appropriate security protocols, suitability and program oversight, security awareness and education, as well as security as it relates to counterintelligence, and force protection.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience for the GS-12: The applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following:
-Analyzing and applying laws, principles, concepts, policies, practices or regulations governing personnel, physical security, and/or information security in order to review, analyze, and resolve security problems; AND
-Developing and preparing explanations of facts to express recommendations; AND
-Providing guidance to lower level specialists regarding security process; AND
-Applying practical security principles, concepts and methods in carrying out assignments.
Specialized experience for the GS-11: The applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following:
-Analyzing and applying laws, principles, concepts, policies, practices or regulations governing personnel, physical security, or information security in order to review, analyze, and resolve security problems; AND
-Developing and preparing explanations of facts to express recommendations; AND
-Applying practical security principles, concepts and methods in carrying out assignments.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 2 years may be combined with experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
Specialized experience for the GS-9: The applicant must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes ALL of the following:
-Drafting correspondence and communication related to personnel/physical or INFOSEC security processing.; AND
-Preparing materials or writing letters.; AND
-Providing guidance regarding the personnel/physical or INFOSEC security processes; AND
-Applying practical security principles, concepts and methods in carrying out assignments.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Master's or equivalent graduate degree, if related;
OR
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, if related; or LL.B. or J.D., if related;
OR
You may qualify by a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be combined with experience.
