You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (CHEMICAL) in the NUCLEAR CHEMISTRY BRANCH, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will perform chemical analyses in support of all types of samples falling under division cognizance. You will advise on improvement of instrumentation or procedural methods and ensure that specialized equipment is procured, modified, and installed. You will assist other laboratory personnel in solving difficult or unusual problems You will coordinate work efforts with other organizations to complete test programs. You will perform other related duties as assigned.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-12:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience conducting chemical and instrumental studies for water chemistry quality control testing associated with nuclear propulsion plants during maintenance overhaul and test programs Experience conducting chemical and instrumental studies of complex and difficult nature in support of regulatory requirements Experience providing chemistry-oriented technical advice to engineers, project and production personnel, hazardous waste management personnel, other chemists, auditors, and naval/civilian administrators of a shipyard Experience performing full range of duties involved in the testing and chemical analysis of various substances In order to qualify for the GS-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience assisting with chemical and instrumental studies for water chemistry quality control testing associated with nuclear propulsion plants during maintenance overhaul and test programs Experience providing chemical and instrumental studies of complex and difficult nature in support of regulatory requirements Experience providing chemistry-oriented technical advice to engineers, project and production personnel, hazardous waste management personnel, other chemists, auditors, and naval/civilian administrators of a shipyard.
