You will serve as a DATA SCIENTIST in the Readiness Branch, Operations Division, Plans, Policies, and Operations of HQ U.S. Marine Corps.
Duties
You will lead contractors within the Branch in forecasting through existing models and development of new algorithms and/or tools to support data manipulation and processing as well as the use of data visualization techniques to articulate findings.
You will establish and manage data standards, conducting data quality reviews and data validation, and ensuring effective building/cleaning/organizing of complex baseline data.
You will provide professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, data analysis, and data visualization.
You will extract relevant information from historical datasets; identifies and employs the appropriate statistical, algorithmic, predictive, and visualization techniques to evaluate information in relation to its impact on decision making.
You will transform data and analysis into informative data visualizations and/or interactive dashboards to arm senior leaders with timely, actionable nuanced data to improve decisions and seize opportunities.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Responsible for development, sustainment, and governing analytical models and methods. Knowledgeable with baseline data standards, data quality reviews and transmission of the baseline data into the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Readiness Decision Impact Model (RDIM).

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
