This position is located in the Office of the Executive Director, Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS/EX). As a Data Scientist, you can impact DS policy and operations through data-informed decision-making. This serves as public notice for the use of OPM's Direct Hire Authority. Duties

Conducts analysis on a range of complex foreign affairs subjects using statistical, mathematical and artificial intelligence tools. As a subject matter expert in data analysis, provides guidance and expertise to senior leadership and stakeholders internal and external to the Bureau. Liaises with interagency interlocutors to obtain access to data and information to complete analyses. Advises on what data sets the Bureau may share with interagency partners. Collaborates with business owners and stakeholders to identify new initiatives by gathering requirements, recommending analytical methodologies, leveraging existing data collection and analytics or providing technical guidance and support.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Have an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position; OR Have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. IN ADDITION to the basic requirements, this position requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: -Experience generating reports and developing compelling stories that convey statistical and technical information to non-technical audiences; -Experience applying knowledge of data analytics to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret unique and highly specialized data sets to guide in decision-making; AND -Experience providing technical direction to junior analysts and reviewing work for methodological accuracy.
