About the Position: Incumbent serves as Legal Assistant (Office Automation) with the 193rd Infantry Brigade. Eligible for situational telework ONLY, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework".

Duties

Provide administrative support in the examination, initiation, and completion of legal actions and documents for review by the Military Justice Advisor or his/her designee(s). Serve as a source of information on Army regulations and guidelines for all matters relating to the administration of military justice. Process all matters relating to the administration of military justice for commanders at all levels and their personnel. Conduct extensive review and analysis of case files submitted by units for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The work may require occasional TDY travel with the Trial Counsel to interview out of state witnesses or to attend professional development training.
  • The work of this position may require the employee to work irregular hours in support of trial times and witness availability, etc.
  • Work may require working alternate or flexible work schedules in conjunction with courts-martial.
  • Some overtime work, night work, weekend work, and holiday work may be required.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using military justice procedures and terminology to provide administrative support for a military legal office; 2) Preparing, reviewing, and completing legal actions, such as: non-judicial punishment actions, Courts-Martial, etc.; AND 3) Using automated software to produce military legal reports, documents, correspondence, research, and related materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Case ManagementLegal, Government and JurisprudenceTechnical CompetenceWritten Communication Qualified Typist Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). NOTE: Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
