About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Legal Assistant (Office Automation) position with the U.S. Army Training Doctrine and Command, 193rd Infantry Brigade, 2-13th Infantry Regiment located at Fort Jackson, SC.
ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND OPM PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK".
Duties
Provides administrative support in the examination, initiation, and completion of legal actions and documents for review by the Chief, Military Justice or his or her designee(s).
Acts as a source of information on Army regulations and guidelines for matters relating to the administration of military justice.
Receives and processes legal documents for the full scope of administrative separation actions.
Provides Guidance and assistance to legal clerks and military points of contact at the units regarding all legal actions and the appropriate documents and forms required for each.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to pass a full background investigation.
- The work may require occasional TDY travel up to 5% with the Trial Counsel to interview out of state witnesses or to attend professional development training.
- A qualified typist is required.
- The work of this position may require the employee to work irregular hours in support of trial times and witness availability, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes retrieving and assembling information for hearing and/or trial use; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials; and advising on matters of legal administration/processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as legal assistance, paralegal studies or law.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Typing Proficiency Requirement:
In addition to the qualification requirements identified above, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
