THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1366000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.
Duties
As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-5/8/10, you will inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
Examine and inspect aircraft components, including landing gear, hydraulic systems, and deicers to locate cracks, breaks, leaks, or other problems.
Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations.
Inspect completed work to certify that maintenance meets standards and that aircraft are ready for operation.
Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
Obtain fuel and oil samples and check them for contamination.
Disassemble equipment to inspect for deficiencies.
Communicate with coworkers to coordinate installations or repairs.
Test mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Measure parts for wear, using precision instruments.
Replace or repair worn, defective, or damaged components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order.
Requirements
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of A1C. Maximum rank of TSgt.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided the skills to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; and skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; and the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and reassembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience with the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance; and experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-05 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
