THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1525000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-12, you will act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Direct, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Perform preflight, post flight, thru flight, periodic, isochronal, phase, hourly and special inspections, as well as servicing, defueling, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Make diagnoses and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex state of the art computerized and/or non computerized diagnostic and precision equipment, by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams and by analyzing construction and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components. Perform in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul and/or modification to verify and certify by signature adherence to work techniques, procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Work with, coordinate and oversee the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Coordinate and oversee the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Observe and inspect performance and work procedures to insure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Serve as the technical authority to advise on, inspect and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies and experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises and Operations Other Than War (OOTW). Plan, develop and conduct training during the technician work week to a multi facet workforce comprised of from 3 to 8 assigned military positions. Conduct and certify Cross Utilization Training (CUT) of non WG-88XX series Aircraft Mechanics to meet mission requirements. Select the appropriate instructional method, utilizing either formalized classroom or practical on-the-job method of instruction. Evaluate and certify effectiveness of training by observation as the trainee performs the task(s).

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of TSgt. Maximum rank of MSgt. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; skill in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-12 Level- Must possess specialized experience which includes at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
