The incumbent will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist in the Security Programs staff located in the Criminal Division, Office of Administration. The Security Programs staff is responsible for personnel security, physical security, information security, and emergency management programs in the Criminal Division.

Duties

As a Personnel Security Specialist, some of your duties may include: Conducting and reviewing investigative checks; reviewing background investigation paperwork for completeness, errors, and derogatory information. Providing recommendations to team lead and supervisor regarding the assessment and resolution of severe derogatory information. Reviewing, evaluating, and making complex adjudicative decisions within established timelines. Collaborating with a team of personnel on resolving difficult security matters. Serving as a liaison to coordinate security-related activities within the organization. Completing day-to-day operational activities to support the security program. Assisting with implementing operational policies, procedures, programs, and standards as required. Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11 level, applicants must (a) have one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-09 federal grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: providing technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors, and/or volunteers regarding pre-employment security processing; reviewing security packages for accuracy and completeness; and reviewing reports of investigation and making appropriate recommendations; OR (b) a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree; OR (c) have a combination of education and experience. Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level. All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
