About the Position: This position falls under the Defense Health Agency - National Capital Region at the Alexander T. Augustus Military Medical Center, performing a combination of clinical tasks related to the treatment and care of patients in a hospital Urology ambulatory environment. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Conduct intake procedures, obtain general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs. Provide health care to a range of patients presenting with complex or multiple systems dysfunctions and/or disorders. Respond as a member of the emergency response team (ERT) for medical emergencies. Perform procedures within the scope of practice to include, assisting with Cystoscopies, Vasectomies, and Prostate Biopsies. Assist physician in performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor surgical procedures ranging from routine to specialized. Administer medications with supervision of physician or nurse. Ensure proper computer entry of patient data, adequate documentation, and equipment settings. Ensure the sterile condition and adequacy of supplies in patient care areas and storage rooms. Perform catheter insertions, voiding trials, and suprapubic catheter exchanges. Conduct patient education about Urologic conditions and treatments.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes taking vital signs, administering IVs and/or performing catheter changes; assisting physician with procedures; communicating with patients and clinicians about medical information; stocking supplies of treatment area; and experience with electronic medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
