About the Position: Located in the Emergency Department of FBCH. Applicants should be available to work on any shift, weekends, holidays, etc. FBCH EMS paramedics provide patient assessment, treatment, and transport for medical and traumatic patients in the 911-field/scene environment, as well as the in-hospital and interfacility transfer settings, in accordance with the FBCH EMS medical protocols, FBCH EMS SOPs, and nationally recognized paramedic standards of care.
Duties
As a Health Technician (Paramedic), you will respond to emergencies involving injuries, illnesses and life threatening situations.
Upon arrival to the scene, you will evaluate the scene to ensure patients and responders safety.
Conduct a preliminary assessment of the number of patient's, the severity of patient's condition, and immediately complete an examination to determine the seriousness of the patient's condition in order to prioritize treatment.
Compile information on patients in order to brief emergency room physician on their injuries, and relays the conditions of the patient via radio prior to transporting to medical facility.
Work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients or assisting in the evacuation of victims from entrapment.
Work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions, or in confined surroundings.
Work is performed in all types of weather conditions (e.g. outdoors and/or extreme humidity).
Work is subject to various risks and discomforts at the scene of accidents, to include the possibility of noxious fumes and dangerous substances.
Requirements
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing there after, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is, therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires Childcare Background Check (due to regular contact w/ children or adolescents).
- You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift , including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call "basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires a valid stateside driver's license.
- This position requires incumbent to have and maintain National Registry-Paramedic (NR-Paramedic) certification.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Certification within six (6) months from hire date.

Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergencies; patient assessments; providing emergency medical interventions and care; and transporting ill and/or injured patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Certification Requirement (Selective Placement Factor): Applicants are required to possess and maintain a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (NREMT-P) or a National Registry-Paramedic (NR-P) certification. (Note: You must attach a copy of your current/valid certification with your application package).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
