Duties
As a Health Technician (Paramedic), you will respond to emergencies involving injuries, illnesses and life-threatening situations.
Upon arrival to the scene, you will evaluate the scene to ensure patients and responders safety.
Conduct a preliminary assessment of the number of patient's, the severity of patient's condition, and immediately complete an examination to determine the seriousness of the patient's condition in order to prioritize treatment.
Compile information on patients in order to brief emergency room physician on their injuries, and relays the conditions of the patient via radio prior to transporting to medical facility.
Work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients or assisting in the evacuation of victims from entrapment.
Work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions, or in confined surroundings.
Work is performed in all types of weather conditions (e.g. outdoors and/or extreme humidity).
Work is subject to various risks and discomforts at the scene of accidents, to include the possibility of noxious fumes and dangerous substances.
Moderate to heavy lifting over 100 pounds is required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires Childcare Background Check (due to regular contact w/ children or adolescents).
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- This position requires incumbent to have and maintain National Registry-Paramedic (NR-Paramedic) certification.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) Certification within six (6) months from hire date.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergencies; patient assessments; providing emergency medical interventions and care; and transporting ill and/or injured patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
